Im Norden wird die Insel vulkanischen Ursprungs vom \u00c4quator durchschnitten. Zu den gr\u00f6\u00dften St\u00e4dten Sulawesis geh\u00f6ren Makassar, Manado, Palu, Kota Gorontalo, Poso sowie Luwuk. Fast 85% der Inselbev\u00f6lkerung bekennen sich zum muslimischen Glauben.<\/p>\n<p>Sulawesi ist die gebirgigste Insel Indonesiens mit dem 3.440 Meter hohen Rantemario als h\u00f6chster Erhebung. Im Norden der Inselfl\u00e4che befinden sich heutzutage noch zw\u00f6lf aktive Vulkane. Auf der Insel Sulawesi befinden sich insgesamt acht Nationalparks, wo zum Beispiel mehrere Affenarten, Schildkr\u00f6ten, Schlangen, Echsen und seltene Vogelarten beheimatet sind.<\/p>\n<p>Die wichtigsten Wirtschaftsg\u00fcter der Insel sind Kaffee, Teakholz, Gew\u00fcrze, Gummi, Rattan, Nickel, Erd\u00f6l, Asphalt, Erdgas sowie weitere landwirtschaftliche Produkte und Erzeugnisse des Fischfangs.<\/p>\n<p>Der Tourismus spielt f\u00fcr Sulawesi ebenfalls eine bedeutende Rolle, besonders beliebt sind Dschungeltouren und Tauchtourismus.<\/p>\n<p>Die gr\u00f6\u00dfte Stadt auf Sulawesi ist Makassar mit etwa 1,8 Millionen Einwohnern im Stadtgebiet und fast drei Millionen in der Metropolregion. Makassar ist die f\u00fcnftgr\u00f6\u00dfte Stadt Indonesiens und die gr\u00f6\u00dfte Stadt \u00f6stlich der Hauptinsel Java. Die Hafenstadt befindet sich in unmittelbarer \u00c4quatorn\u00e4he mit ganzj\u00e4hrig warmen Temperaturen. Zu den wichtigsten Sehensw\u00fcrdigkeiten der Stadt z\u00e4hlen die r\u00f6misch-katholische Kathedrale, der chinesische Tempel, die Zentrums-Moschee, das Fort Rotterdam, die Festung Somba Opu, das 75 Meter hohe Mandala Monument, der Fischereihafen, der gro\u00dfe Seehafen, insgesamt 17 Universit\u00e4ten sowie diverse Str\u00e4nde.<\/p>\n<p>Im Mai 2018 bereiste ich Palu und Makassar auf Sulawesi f\u00fcr einen dreit\u00e4gigen Aufenthalt. W\u00e4hrend die ruhige Stadt Palu im Norden eher durch eine atemberaubende Landschaft und seinen bekannten Tauchgebieten gl\u00e4nzt, ist Makassar eine belebte Gro\u00dfstadt mit einigen wenigen Sehensw\u00fcrdigkeiten. Palu erreichte ich nach einem kurzen Flug von Ostborneo mit Lion Air. Die Stadt ist super angenehm und die vulkanische Landschaft einzigartig. Ich hatte dort einen entspannten Aufenthalt im Mercure Hotel und behalte Sulawesi auf jeden Fall in bleibender Erinnerung.<\/p>\n<p>In Makassar war mir eigentlich schon wieder zu viel Trubel, sodass
