Anguilla is one of the \u201cLeeward Islands\u201d in the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean with around 14,000 inhabitants. Along with several small, uninhabited coral islands, Anguilla forms an overseas territory of the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n

The archipelago is geographically located around 30 kilometers north of St. Martin and around 200 kilometers east of the Virgin Islands and around 300 kilometers from the American Puerto Rico.<\/p>\n

The largest town in Anguilla is South Hill with almost 1,800 inhabitants, but the political capital is called The Valley.<\/p>\n

The Anguilla archipelago has two ports, Blowing Point and Road Bay, and the airport is south of the capital. The country's official currency is the East Caribbean dollar, where 1 euro corresponds to around 3 XCD.<\/p>\n

Most of Anguilla's land area is very flat, formed from coral and limestone. The highest elevation is \u201cCrocus Hill\u201d at just 65 meters.<\/p>\n

The island owes its name Anguilla, which translates as eel, to its elongated shape, with a length of around 25 kilometers and a maximum width of around five kilometers.<\/p>\n

The climate there is tropical all year round with light winds, although hurricanes and other tropical storms can occur mainly in the summer months.<\/p>\n

The area of the main island of Anguilla is around 90 square kilometers. The two larger islands, Scrub Island in the northeast and Dog Island in the northwest, are also part of the country's territory. There are also over 20 small islands and cays such as Prickly Pear Cays, Anguillita, Little Scrub Island and Sombrero.<\/p>\n

Due to its size, Anguilla has hardly any natural resources, so the economy is based mainly on tourism and various financial services. In the last few decades, the expansion of the tourism sector has been driven forward, with the luxury segment playing a particularly important role.<\/p>\n

The previously important economic sectors such as lobster fishing and salt production are now of little importance.<\/p>\n

The Caribbean island of Anguilla is known worldwide for its famous beach in Shoal Bay. This snow-white, fine sandy beach is one of the top 5 most beautiful beaches in the world on \u201cTripadvisor\u201d and is particularly popular with well-heeled visitors. Other Anguilla attractions include Rendezvous Bay Beach, Meads Bay, Shoal Bay Village, Maundays Bay, Sandy Island, Dolphin Discovery Anguilla, Little Bay, Sandy Ground, Island Harbour, Crocus Bay Beach, Stone Cellar Art Gallery , the Wallblake House, the Fountain Cave, the church and the Fountain National Park.<\/p>\n

In July 2015 I visited the beautiful island of Anguilla for a day. I took a ferry in the morning from Marigot, the capital of St. Martin, and reached the little Caribbean dream after a boat ride of around an hour.<\/p>\n

After a small tour of the island and a short tour of the manageable capital The Valley, we then went to the small village of Shoal Bay. I spent a completely relaxed and relaxing day in this beautiful setting on the world-famous white beach of Shoal Bay. They were also well prepared for their physical needs; freshly caught fish dishes, prepared in a special local way, are particularly recommended.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, I had to leave the paradise of Anguilla early in the evening because my ferry started its return journey on time. All in all, it was a really pleasant day trip, on an island where you can just feel good and with a landscape that really comes close to a so-called picturesque postcard.<\/p>\n

Since then, the impressive beach of Shoal Bay has been in my personal top 3 of the most beautiful beaches on earth.<\/p>\n

Hopefully I'll come back one day, but then definitely for a longer stay.<\/p>\n\n
