The Czech Republic is a landlocked country in Central Europe with around 10.8 million inhabitants. The country is made up of the historical countries of Bohemia, Moravia and parts of Silesia. The state borders on Germany in the west, Poland in the north, Slovakia in the east and Austria in the south. The official national currency is the Czech crown, where 1 euro is equivalent to around 25 CZK. Czech is mainly spoken in the country, but Slovak is also occasionally spoken.<\/p>\n

Today's Czech Republic was founded in 1993 through the division of Czechoslovakia. The country is a member of NATO and has been in the European Union since 2004. The Czech Republic is actually an industrial country, world-famous for its beer, lies in the temperate temperature zone and is very hilly with several low mountain ranges. The highest peak in the Czech Republic is Sn?\u017eka in the Giant Mountains at 1,602 meters. Other low mountain ranges include the Bohemian Forest, the Ore Mountains and the Bohemian Central Mountains.<\/p>\n

The largest cities in the country include Prague, Brno, Ostrava, Pilsen, Olomouc, Liberec, Usti nad Labem, Budweis, Pardubice, Most, Hradec Kralove and Kladno.<\/p>\n

The significant sights of the Czech Republic include the Pilsener Urquell Brewery in Pilsen, the Historical Center of Cesky, the Czech-Saxon Switzerland, the Budweiser Brewery in Ceske Budejovice, the fairy-tale Bouzov Castle, the Bohemian Paradise, Pruhonice Park, the Krumlov Castle, Zamek Lednice , the Frauenberg Castle, the Loket Castle and the Konopiste Castle as landmarks of Bohemia.<\/p>\n

The city of Prague is the capital of the country with around 1.4 million inhabitants and is also the largest city in the Czech Republic. The city is the fourteenth largest city in the European Union.<\/p>\n

Sometimes referred to as the \u201cGolden City\u201d or the \u201cCity of a Hundred Towers,\u201d Prague is the historic capital of Bohemia. Prague is centrally located in the western Czech Republic on the Vltava, around 41 kilometers before it flows into the Elbe near Melnik. A large part of the city lies in the valley of the river, which flows through the urban area over a length of 30 kilometers.<\/p>\n

The cityscape of Prague's historic center is characterized by Gothic and Baroque architecture. Sights such as Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, the medieval town hall clock, the Old Jewish Cemetery, Wenceslas Square and the oldest active synagogue in the world make the city a popular destination for tourists. With almost six million foreign tourists every year, Prague is one of the ten most visited cities in Europe. Other interesting sights include the Stern Castle, the Brevnov Monastery, the National Theater, the castle town of Hradcany, St. Vitus Cathedral, the Teyn Church, the Astronomical Clock, the Strahov Monastery, the John Lennon Wall, the Dancing House, the Community Hall , the Church of Maria Schnee, the Prague TV Tower, the Troy Castle, the National Museum on Wenceslas Square, the Kampa Museum and the Prague Zoo.<\/p>\n

I have visited Prague about ten times so far and the city has always been a great experience. I was either there for the European Supercup football final in 2013, for a day tour with a city tour, with friends for a long weekend or just as a quick stop for lunch in the famous brewery and restaurant \u201cU Fleku\u201d, coming through from Austria.<\/p>\n

This city is fascinating, for me it is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and is always worth a visit.<\/p>\n\n
