Lampedusa is a small island in the Mediterranean between Tunisia and Sicily with around 5,000 inhabitants. The island, measuring approximately 8 by 3 kilometers, is politically part of Italy and the European Union and is almost the southernmost point of Europe. The distance to the African mainland in Tunisia is around 140 kilometers.<\/p>\n

Lampedusa's island area includes various bays and sandy beaches on the south coast as well as higher hills with cliffs in the north.<\/p>\n

The highest point on the island is the Albero Sole at 113 meters. Lampedusa has a warm Mediterranean climate all year round.<\/p>\n

The island of Lampedusa is known worldwide as a refuge for African refugees. The mostly overcrowded refugee boats from Tunisia and Libya naturally head for the small Italian island because of its proximity to Africa.<\/p>\n

The island of Lampedusa can be reached daily by plane from the Italian cities of Palermo or Catania, as well as by daily ferries with the neighboring islands of Sicily and Linosa.<\/p>\n

The capital of the island is Lampedusa, where a large part of the population lives. The island's attractions include the Faro di Capo Grecale lighthouse, the Spiaggia de Portu Ntoni beach, the Door to Europe, the beaches of Cala Guitgia, Cala Calandra, Cala Pulcino, Cala Uccello and Cala Croce, the Capo viewpoint Ponente, the church \u201cSantuario de Nostra Signora di Lampedusa\u201d with its gardens and caves, the small museum and the wonderful Rabbit Beach - one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe.<\/p>\n

In June 2017 I traveled to the beautiful island of Lampedusa for the only time so far. Since there were no taxis to be found at the airport after arrival, I set off on foot to the main town of Lampedusa. About halfway there a white buggy stopped and the older gentleman behind the wheel asked if he could show me the island. It turned out to be Emanuele, the best tourist guide in all of Lampedusa. I then booked Emanuele for the whole day and he showed me every corner of this small island.<\/p>\n

After visiting the impressive steep cliffs and the other attractions of Lampedusa, I made myself comfortable in the afternoon on a beach with an excellent fish restaurant.<\/p>\n

The island of Lampedusa is a dream landscape, there is always the smell of oregano in the air and there are several fantastic beaches.<\/p>\n

Lampedusa is an absolute insider tip and, for me, is one of the most beautiful and cozy islands in the world.<\/p>\n\n
