Tristan da Cunha is an island in the Atlantic Ocean with around 300 inhabitants. The smaller, uninhabited Gough Island, Inaccessible Island, Nightingale Island, Central Island and Stoltenhoff Island also belong to the actual archipelago.<\/p>\n
Tristan da Cunha, the most remote of all the inhabited islands in the world, is a British Overseas Territory and belongs to an archipelago including Saint Helena and Ascension.<\/p>\n
The official language on the island is English and the British pound sterling is used as a means of payment.<\/p>\n
The island of Tristan da Cunha is located in the middle of the Atlantic, around 2,850 kilometers to the east is the southern tip of South Africa and around 3,250 kilometers to the west to Brazil.<\/p>\n
Tristan da Cunha is actually a cone-shaped volcano that juts out of the water with an elevation of 2,060 meters, Queen Marys Peak.<\/p>\n
Langoust fishing and its further distribution are the two most important economic sectors on the island, and the associated processing factory is also the largest employer. There is also a small amount of agriculture and sheep farming on Tristan.<\/p>\n
Tourism is almost non-existent on the island. The only way to travel to Tristan da Cunha today is with various supply ships from Cape Town, South Africa. The island of Tristan da Cunha does not have its own airport.<\/p>\n
The main town on the island is \u201cEdinburgh of the Seven Seas\u201d, where all of Tristan da Cunha\u2019s residents also live. At the same time, the place on the north coast is also the administrative headquarters of the Atlantic island.<\/p>\n
The nearest inhabited place is almost 2,500 kilometers from Edinburgh, making the main town of Tristan da Cunhas the most isolated human settlement on earth.<\/p>\n
It is also interesting that there are only a total of nine different surnames among the over 80 different families on the entire island.<\/p>\n
The main attractions of "Edinburgh of the Seven Seas" include St. Mary's School, the harbor, the golf club, the health center, the St. Mary's Church, the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the cemetery, the post office, the Tristan da Cunha Museum, the Prince Philip Hall, the Thatched Roof House Museum and the \u201cAlbatross Bar\u201d.<\/p>\n
