Vanuatu is an island nation in the Pacific Ocean with around 290,000 inhabitants. The territory of Vanuatu consists of a total of 84 islands, located south of the Solomon Islands and north of New Caledonia. The archipelago is divided into the provinces of Malampa, Shefa, Penama, Tafea, Sanma and Torba.<\/p>\n

The three official languages of Vanuatu are English, French and Bislama. The Vanuatu Vatu is used as a means of payment, with 1 euro corresponding to around 130 VUV.<\/p>\n

The islands of Vanuatu are predominantly of volcanic origin, with the 1,879 meter high Tabwemasana as the highest point in the entire state. There are two active volcanoes in Vanuatu: Lombenden and Mount Yasur, and the country is also regularly shaken by earthquakes.<\/p>\n

Vanuatu's most important economic sectors are tourism, agriculture and fishing. Agricultural export products include coffee, copra, bananas, cocoa and beef.<\/p>\n

Foreign tourists mainly enjoy the many white sandy beaches, the fishing-rich diving areas, the many waterfalls, the unique caves and the impressive nature with many hiking trails and volcanic elevations.<\/p>\n

The capital of Vanuatu is Port Vila with around 60,000 inhabitants. Port Vila is the political and economic center of the island state and is located on the island of Efate in the province of Shefa. The city has the only international airport and the most important port in the country.<\/p>\n

Port Vila's main attractions include Parliament, Port Vila Cathedral, Independence Park, City Hall, Central Post Office, Art Gallery, National Museum, Vanuatu Cultural Center, Cemetery, Adventure Park, Historical Ekasup Village, Turtle Sanctuary, Street Market, Underwater Post Office, Havannah Beach, Iririki Island, Eden on the River Park, Hideaway Island Marine Park and Cascade Waterfall.<\/p>\n

In January 2017 I traveled to the island state of Vanuatu for the only time so far. I spent two eventful days in the capital Port Vila. Port Vila is a very cozy and pleasant city, and super easy to walk around. The terraces of the restaurants and cafes looked very inviting and I wanted to stop off everywhere. Unfortunately, my time in Vanuatu was limited and focused solely on the highlights of the capital.<\/p>\n

For a longer tourist stay, Vanuatu has a lot of attractions to offer and is definitely always worth a trip.<\/p>\n
