Hong Kong is a metropolis in Southeast Asia with around 7.7 million inhabitants. The city has been a special administrative zone on the southern coast of the People's Republic of China since 1997.<\/p>\n

The official languages of Hong Kong are Chinese and English, and the Hong Kong dollar is used as a means of payment, with 1 euro being equivalent to around 9 HKD.<\/p>\n

The territory of Hong Kong consists of a total of 264 islands, the largest of which is Lantau Island. Hong Kong Island, Lamma Island, Chek Lap Kok, Tsing Yi, Peng Chau and Cheung Chau are also among the important islands in the archipelago.<\/p>\n

The highest point in Hong Kong is the 958 meter high Tai Mo Shan. The country has a subtropical climate with warm temperatures all year round.<\/p>\n

Around three quarters of the city's population are Chinese, so the faith is predominantly Buddhist, and there are also around 10% Christians living in the city.<\/p>\n

Hong Kong's architecture consists of numerous modern high-rise buildings, making it one of the cities with the most expensive housing in the world and at the same time the highest cost of living.<\/p>\n

The working population works an average of over 50 hours per week, the most hours per week in the world.<\/p>\n

As the most important financial center in Asia, Hong Kong's economy is based primarily on lucrative financial services and international trade due to its low taxes. The second important economic sector is strong tourism, in one of the most visited cities in the world every year.<\/p>\n

Hong Kong's new airport was built on an offshore island because the old airport, world-famous for its dangerous landings between high-rise buildings and mountains, had become too noisy and no longer had enough space.<\/p>\n

The main attractions in Hong Kong include the 552 meter high Victoria Peak with its breathtaking views and the Lion Pavilion, the Big Buddha, the Hong Kong trams, the skyline, the Nan Lian Garden, the local history museum, the Chi Lin - Nunnery, Lantau Island with the cable car and country park, Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong Park, Fung Ying Seen Koon Temple, the 484 meter high International Commerce Center building with its observation deck - the tallest building in Hong Kong, the Po Lin Monastery, the 10,000 Buddha Monastery, the Botanical Gardens, the Rosary Church, the center with its covered walkways, St. Andrews Church, the markets of Stanley, the Tsing Ma Bridge, the Wong Tai Sin Temple, St. John's Cathedral and Pottinger Street.<\/p>\n

In recent years I have traveled to the metropolis of Hong Kong twice, the last time in January 2016, combined with my visit to neighboring Macau.<\/p>\n

The highlight of Hong Kong for me is definitely the tram ride to Victoria Peak, with the fascinating view of the city.<\/p>\n

Otherwise, Hong Kong is sometimes very hectic with the numerous crowds of people walking around, but that's why it's somehow interesting and exciting.<\/p>\n

The metropolis is definitely recommended for a visit, but I would limit your stay to a few days.<\/p>\n\n
