Qatar is a country in the Middle East with around 2.9 million inhabitants. The country is a peninsula and borders directly on Saudi Arabia in the south, on Bahrain in the northeast at a distance of around 30 kilometers and is also almost completely surrounded by the Persian Gulf.

The official language in Qatar is Arabic and the Qatari Rial is used as a means of payment, with 1 euro being equivalent to around 4 QAR.

The largest cities in the country include Doha, ar-Rayyan, al-Wukair, Umm Salal, al-Wakra, al-Khor and adh-Dhachira.

Due to its high immigration rate, the state of Qatar has one of the fastest growing populations in the world. Qatar is one of the countries with the highest per capita income in the world and, in terms of income per capita, the richest country in the world.

The Qatari territory, measuring approximately 180 by 85 kilometers, is predominantly desert and is one of the driest regions in the world. The highest peak in the country is the 103 meter high Qurain Abu Baul.

Due to the predominantly high subtropical temperatures in summer, Qatar has very little flora and fauna. Apart from palm trees and thorn bushes as well as antelopes, monitor lizards, geckos and some sea turtles, no natural species occur anywhere in the country.

The two most important economic sectors in Qatar are the mining of natural gas and oil. Around a third of the world's gas is produced in the country. The state has the largest natural gas field in the world under the seabed, around 181T3T of the world's gas reserves and the third largest gas reserves in the entire globe.

Structured agriculture practically does not take place under these climatic conditions.

The capital of Qatar is Doha, with around 1.4 million inhabitants in the entire metropolitan area. Doha is at the same time the political, economic and cultural center of the country.

The important sights of Doha include the Museum of Islamic Art, the Doha Promenade with its many skyscrapers, the Souq Waqif with its extravagant mosque, the National Museum of Qatar, the Imam Muhammad Mosque, the luxury island “The Pearl”, the Arabic Art Museum, the Aspire Sports Park, the Msheireb Local History Museum, the Al Udeid Beach, the MIA Park, the Grand Mosque, the Sheikh Faisal Museum, the Katara Cultural Village with its ornate mosque, the Fanar Islamic Cultural Center , the large water park and the national library.

So far I have traveled to Qatar probably 20 to 30 times, but mainly for work. Of course, during my stays, which sometimes lasted weeks, I also had enough time to see all of the country's attractions.

The capital Doha impresses with a breathtaking and wonderfully landscaped waterfront promenade, which can be completely seen from anywhere at any time thanks to its kilometer-long U-shape. There are several impressive parks integrated there, which together practically form the heart of the city.

The city of Doha also has an excellently renovated historical urban area and offers the Souq Waqif, an always worthwhile excursion destination after the sunset.

The small Arab state is not necessarily suitable for a longer tourist stay because life mainly takes place in Doha and it can get a bit boring outside of it.

But for a short stopover, it's definitely worth immersing yourself in this unique, modern, glittering world.
