The Kingdom of Belgium is located in Western Europe on the North Sea and borders Germany, Luxembourg, France and the Netherlands. Approximately 11 million people live in Belgium and it is divided into the Flemish and Walloon regions. The official languages are French, Dutch and German. Belgium is a founding member of the EU and uses the euro as a means of payment.
The country's capital is Brussels with around 1.2 million inhabitants and is also the seat of the European Union. Brussels is a very beautiful city and is always worth a visit. The city is bilingual and offers many interesting sights. One of the most famous are certainly the Manneken Pis in the middle of the city and the Atomium as a landmark of the 1958 World Exhibition. The Leopold European Quarter with the EU building is certainly also worth visiting.
Other attractions in the capital include the Town Hall, Grand Place, Van Buuren Museum, Guildhouses, Notre Dame du Sablon, Mont des Arts, Les Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert, Place St. Gery, Coudenberg Palace, Place Ste. Catherine, the Royal Palace, the Royal Theater Toone, La Bourse de Bruxelles and the Museum of the City of Brussels.
Belgium is very popular with tourists in summer due to the many holiday resorts on the North Sea, such as Oostende or Nieuwpoort.
Many years ago I had a great day swimming on the North Sea in Ostend. In the late afternoon we went for a stroll and dinner in a very exciting city, Bruges.
One of the most beautiful old towns in Europe is located in the small town of Bruges and is always suitable for a day trip.
Antwerp is a city of great international importance. Antwerp is home to the second largest seaport in Europe and one of the largest in the world. The city is also very famous for its diamonds and is considered the world's most important center for diamond processing and trading.
If you like mountains, you are in good hands in the Ardennes, another holiday region.
From a tourist perspective, Belgium is a country for everyone, has many different attractions to offer and is always worth a trip.
